O Ju e the 10th 1944, 200 SS committed a act of terror i Oradour-sur-Gla e. They massacred 642 people i cludi g 193 childre . I post these pictures with hesita cy. I've bee here before but could 't bri g myself to take photographs. The village has bee kept exactly as it was left, cars left, bikes a d houses as they were fou d i Ju e 1944. This time I felt it is importa t to share the remi der of the atrocities of war a d took the pictures as a remi der of what we huma s are capable so ot to forget a d hide away the past a d the thi gs that have happe ed. Every photo I took, I felt i my heart the sad ess of war. Oradour was ot a crime due to mad ess but the logic of a system. We must remember this, ot to see it agai , we must live a d build a world i which crime will be folly agai a d reaso will be peace" Claude Roy (1949)
